On his first major hiking trip as a Boy Scout, Jesús did something he never thought he’d be able to do. He climbed up Stone Mountain.
Jesús had never gone on extended hike without his wheelchair before. But he wanted to make it up Stone Mountain with the rest of his Troop. The other Scouts worked with him, supporting him part of the way and carrying the wheelchair up behind him.
Reaching the top of the mountain and looking over at the Atlanta skyline is something Jesús thought he would never do. And that’s just one of the many new experiences he’s had thanks to his involvement in Scouting.
Jesús is a Scout in Troop 5375, supported by the Atlanta Area Council’s Scoutreach initiative. To learn more about how Scoutreach delivers the promise of Scouting to boys like Jesus, click here.
