Mukund is an Eagle Scout Candidate from Troop 69 in Milton, Georgia who is working on a project of impressive scope. He has identified two elementary schools in rural India that do not have enough desks for their students.
Mukund spent months gathering funds to buy the necessary supplies to build the desks. They held car washes as a fundraiser to purchase supplies and solicited donations from friends and family.
All of the Scouts involved in the project will be eligible for the World Scouting Committee’s Messengers of Peace award for their efforts.
Working on the project has been an eye-opening experience for Mukund. “The Troop has been supportive beyond my expectations,” he says. The biggest surprise was the support of his neighbors: the Tinsley family. Mr. and Mrs. Tinsley have two Eagle Scout sons and are passionate about supporting the Scouting Program in Atlanta. When they heard about Mukund’s project they donated $500 to the cause on top of their regular contribution to Scouting.
Mukund sat down with the Tinsley family to thank them for their support and interviewed them about their history with Scouting.
In December of 2016 Mukund and his family traveled to India and met up with a Troop of Scouts from Bharat and Guides from Karnataka to assemble the desks.
