Ron Young’s Scoutmaster Inspired his Service

Ron Young grew up in Scouting and later enlisted in the United States Army. In 2003 he became a prisoner of war when his Apache Longbow helicopter was shot down by enemy forces. He and his fellow pilot, David Williams, were freed by Marines after twenty-three days in captivity.

After returning from Iraq, Ron served on the Georgia Drug Task Force for several years.

Ron now serves as a Search and Rescue pilot with ERA Helicopters flying in the Gulf of Mexico region.

His career of public service began with the inspiration and assistance of his Scoutmaster, CJ Nutter.

This Fourth of July the Atlanta Area Council salutes all of our service members including those former Scouts who heard the call of duty and stepped forward. Thank you for your service.
